MY FIRST BOOK

After working full time since leaving school, 6 days a week (and cycle racing on Sunday the day of rest!) And fitting race training around it for over two decades I was diagnosed with ARVD in 2003, an uncommon heart disease in general but quite well know of in sporting circles, especially abroad where medicals have to be taken each season before a racing license is issued. I was not given long to live and my son was born that same year 2003. I wanted to leave a message in a bottle for him come what may. I started to write poetry first of all as something to take the place of my sporting focus and to express myself. It felt good to me. It was something I had never thought of doing before. As Alfie grew into a toddler and then a little boy the inspiration grew to leave him something from his dad just in case. I enjoyed the thought of creating something special for my special little chap and wanted him to be able to read it all through his life if he so wished. Six short stories followed. I found an interested publisher and my first book STORIES FOR ALL THE CHILDREN OF ALL THE WORLDS was created. So far God has been very kind to me and 16 years after my diagnosis I’m happy to say that I’m still on planet Earth with my teenage son and his lovely mum.
